TheFallOfTheLeaf

Thelazymisthangsfromthebrowofthehill，

Concealingthecourseofthedark-windingrill;

Howlanguidthescenes，latesosprightly，appear!

AsAutumntoWinterresignsthepaleyear.

Theforestsareleafless，themeadowsarebrown，

Andallthegayfopperyofsummerisflown:

Apartletmewander，apartletmemuse，

HowquickTimeisflying，howkeenFatepursues!

HowlongIhavelivd—buthowmuchlivdinvain，

Howlittleoflifesscantyspanmayremain，

WhataspectsoldTimeinhisprogresshasworn，

WhattiescruelFate，inmybosomhastorn.

Howfoolish，orworse，tilloursummitisgaind!

Anddownward，howweakend，howdarkend，howpaind!

Lifeisnotworthhavingwithallitcangive—
